Arthritis, early treatment

Arthritis is one of the deadliest diseases known so far. There are a lot of people who are suffering from this disease which causes excruciating pain and sometimes is even a hindrance in doing some of the simplest activities in daily life which involves the movement of joints.

Studies show that maximum number of people who suffer from arthritis belong to the age group 60-65. While this is true, the common notion among people that only elderly are affected by this disease is simply not true. There have been instances of teenagers, middle-aged people and in fact even infants suffering from arthritis. There is a variant of this disease, juvenile arthritis which as the name suggests, affects the young people too.

With such a dreadful disease, an early diagnosis would definitely help in getting a better cure for this. If there are any symptoms at all of swelling and joint pain, it is advised to see a doctor as soon as possible and get it tested.

Most of the treatment regimes mainly consist of pain management and if possible a sure for the joints as well. There has been elaborative research being conducted in this field. A recent study which was conducted in 11 European countries showed a progress in the health condition of the patient in 4000 centers. There were more than 6000 people being treated for arthritis at these centers.

The treatment plan in these studies was to inject 40 mg of Adalimumab into the patient’s blood stream for 12 weeks. Around 1/4th of them reported no pain after this treatment, while more than 77% of them had a drastic reduction in pain from 13% to 3%. This drug not only manages the pain but also reduces the swelling at the joints. Around 70% of the cases registered a reduction in swelling from 10% to 3%.

Considering the fact that it has just come out of research studies, the drug has multiple side effects, hence to be prescribed only by well experienced doctors. Even if you are fine with the side effects, the cost of the treatment is exorbitant.
