Types of Arthritis
Arthritis, the word is derived from Greek formed by the combination of ‘Artho’, meaning joints and ‘itis’, meaning pain. The disease is here is named after the symptom that is observed quite commonly with people who have it. There are more than 100 variations of this syndrome which is diagnosed with the joint pain. There is the most common kind, Osteoarthritis, commonly known as ‘wear and tear’ disease. Then there is the acute kind where the joints are irreparable and there is excruciating pain associated with it, Rheumatoid arthritis. There is also the mild form commonly known as the ‘tennis elbow’. There is systemic lupus erythematosus and fibromyalgia which are associated with chronic pain and involves just about every body part.
The common age group of people who are affected by arthritis is generally between 60-65 years, but these days it is seen among people in other age groups. While there are cases of infants affected with arthritis, there are so many people who are affected by this deadly disease at the prime of their life. As the name suggests, all of them suffer from inflammation of the joint lining in the body which causes excruciating pain at the joints and musculoskeletal regions.
There is an immune system present in the human body, which causes inflammation when there is an injury. An inflammation on the outer side of the body can be identified with swelling, redness in the skin, pain when touched and heat. Movement involving those joints which are inflamed might not be possible leading to the loss of function of that joint.
